  • Artist Rangarajan' House, R. Srivathsan (guest) wrote 18 years ago:
Born as Fourth son in a surprisingly less orthodox brahmin family in early 50's, rangarajan was greatly inspired by his grand father a veteran sanskrit scholar appan gopalaswamy iyengar and his father srinivasan who was adept in free hand drawing. No wonder, he took to fine arts; studied in College of fine arts chennai. No sooner did fine arts become his profession than he realised his flair for mural paintings and started attaining mastery over the field his area of specialisation being portraits (a vivid portrayal of realife in their depth and tones). An aspiring student, he participated in a lot of exhibitions at the state level in late 70's and was greatly adored by the veterans. Completing his 5 year diploma in fine arts rangarajan was more than just averse to getting branded as commercial artist and wanted to impart what he learnt from stalwarts to the generations to come. He joined the college of fine arts in kumbakonam hands down in 1978. Since then he is continuing his job to his heart's content. Unlike many artists whose stature is measured by the currency notes their works are sold for, rangarajan's stature is measured by the success of his students and their sincere words of praise for him as an epitome of teaching skills.
